About us

The Beverly Bombshells are a women’s hockey club that is dedicated to playing and supporting one of the fastest growing women’s sports. With over fifty players, we continue to grow each year adding both beginners and veteran players. We are committed to fostering the growth of the game both locally and on a wider scale by encouraging women interested in the sport to try it out in hopes they fall in love with the game just as we have.

How We Started

Six years ago, a new rink opened up in the Beverly neighborhood and three women saw the opportunity to start a new team. Cynthia “Lupa” Lupa, Sandy “Shorty” Schneider, and Erica “Boom” Karlson, along with the help of interested players, drew up the plans of a new team. Through social media, word of mouth, and flyers posted around town, word got out and the Beverly Bombshells were born.

The Name & COLORS

After several failed votes and four different surveys, we had no solid team names. While driving through her work territory, “Boom” passed an old street sign in the middle of southern Illinois that had “Bombshell” in the name and immediately knew she had something. She presented it to the team and it stuck. Finally!

As for our colors, we were inspired by local 12-year old, Emily Beazley and her four year fight against non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. The neighborhood had lit up their homes and businesses with green and purple lights, leading to our green and purple colors. We play in Emily’s honor and will always be the purple and green.

What We've Achieved

  • We started the 2015-2016 season with two teams.

  • In each of our seasons with the WCHL, we have sent at least one team to playoffs, sometimes all teams.

  • A first for our club: our 2018-2019 D4 team went 16-0!

  • Due to outstanding recruitment, we were able to form an entire Division 1 team over the summer of 2019. They went 13-0 in their inaugural season.
